Comparing versions

Version comparison shows a reference and the editing version through the same framing.

Comparison starts beside the version picker. On a Mac, click the split button to the right of + in Develop’s control band, or right-click a segment and choose Compare With This. On iPad, touch the split button beside + under VERSION. On iPhone, open the version menu and choose Compare With. Then choose ORIGINAL or another saved version as the reference. The picker marks the reference with the split symbol, and on a Mac the band names it in place of the hold hint. The reference keeps its development settings while its preview uses the editing version’s crop, straighten, rotation, flips and perspective. The saved reference recipe and the catalogue’s selected version do not change. Sliders, RESET and undo continue to act on the editing version.

Drag the divider to reveal either side. Zoom and pan use one canvas placement; moving the divider causes no recipe edit or render. A focused divider responds to the arrow keys on Mac and to VoiceOver adjustment on every editing device. Canvas tools pause the wipe until they close. Versions with different lens corrections or incompatible source dimensions show an alignment explanation instead of an inaccurate comparison. Nothing else stands over the photograph. Close comparison to release the reference preview: on a Mac, choose Close Comparison from the split button’s menu; on iPhone and iPad, touch the lit split button that stands in place of the eye while a comparison is open. Changing photographs closes it too.
