Learn to use Frames

Frames works across Mac, iPhone, iPad, Duo and Apple TV. Use Browse to find photographs, Choose to review a shoot and Develop to edit. This chapter covers the devices, the trial, adding sources and the main controls.

Press B to find photographs across your sources. Browse has a collection tree and its own filters, independent of Choose phases. Use it to organise Photos albums and folders, and export finished photographs.

Press D to edit one photograph. Frames saves adjustments as a recipe in its catalogue and leaves the original file unchanged. Each photograph can have any number of versions alongside ORIGINAL.

1. Colour grading

   Tint shadows, midtones, highlights or the whole selected target with one wheel, exact numeric controls, Balance and Blending. Works on Background and mask layers.

   Correct convergence with Vertical, Horizontal and Aspect, or align four guides. Constrain Crop keeps empty edges out while preserving the stored crop.

   Frames saves adjustments automatically as recipes, including when you leave a photograph or quit during a drag.

   Copy with ⇧⌘C and review with ⇧⌘V. Apply chosen adjustments to one or many frames as new versions by default, with explicit update choices and guarded Undo. The copied recipe survives restarts and is shared by windows on this device.

Use layers to apply adjustments to part of a photograph. Draw a mask, select colours or tones, or use detected subjects and objects. Refine individual shapes with colour and brightness selectivity, then soften the combined mask with Diffusion.
